In Shanghai’s Qingpu District stands a gigantic space of over 1 million square metres, the Yangtze River Delta Hi-Tech Park, which includes office buildings, a research centre, commercial and leisure facilities, staff apartments and support facilities. The industrial park will be transformed into a high-end hub and an international research and development base.
In this area, in fact, a scientific and technological innovation centre has been set up, with an area of 2,000 square metres, designed to house a new generation intelligent sharing office space, thus fuelling the robust development of companies.
For the realisation of the ventilated façades of the D Center of the Yangtze River Delta Hi-Tech Park, the design studio gmp von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects chose the large ultra-thin ceramic slabs of Kerlite 3plus Buxy with a thickness of 3.5 mm in the Corail Blanc shade. Buxy is a collection inspired by a stone originating in French Burgundy with strong, distinctive tones and a particular punctiform graphic pattern. The surface, which has a natural look, lends warmth, elegance and style and adapts harmoniously to the urban context in which the structure is inserted. Kerlite’s ultra-thin slabs used to clad the façade of the buildings that make up the centre are perfectly in line with the high rate of sustainability and innovation of the district. In fact, the ultra-thin slabs are born sustainable from the very first stages, thanks to the lower use of raw materials, lower consumption of water and energy, lower CO2 emissions. It is in fact porcelain stoneware that guarantees high mechanical resistance - to temperature changes and frost - non-combustibility, minimal water absorption and easy repair.
