Inspired by the iconic Farnsworth House by Mies Van Der Rohe, Brengues Le Pavec Architectes oversaw the renovation of a villa near Montpellier, adding an extension constructed from black metal and glass, which contrasts with the existing structure. The house has been completely transformed, with a sleek interior characterised by clean lines and high-quality materials, creating an elegant and modern atmosphere. The new wing, suspended between the ground floor and the garden, offers sweeping views of the surrounding park. The expansive windows and terraces make it possible to enjoy the outdoor spaces year-round, with rooms that are brighter and more inviting, while the new extension provides open and flexible living spaces. The metal staircase that connects the two levels is the only element that recalls the original structure, creating an intriguing contrast between past and present.
The architects responsible for the design chose an elegant product by Cotto d’Este: a custom-made, 14 mm thick porcelain stoneware, which they used both inside and outside to maintain a cohesive style and create a seamless flow throughout the spaces.
The distinctive, natural-looking finish of the tiles, a striking feature of the design, captures the natural and timeless allure of a classic stone with remarkable realism. The large-format slabs used outside are resistant to wear and made to withstand the elements, while those laid indoors guarantee a healthy, safe, and protected environment thanks to PROTECT® technology, a high-performance, antibacterial coating.
